On your mark. Get set. O!
Established in 1884, Oregon Law is one of the oldest law schools in the West and we are the only one in Oregon situated on the campus of a major research university. Among the first law schools in the United States to be accredited by the American Bar Association, we are the only law school in Oregon with membership in the legal academic honorary, Order of the Coif. Today, Oregon Law remains an innovative, nationally recognized law school.
The School of Law is part of the University of Oregon, one of the nation's premier public and teaching universities, located in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene, the state’s second largest city, is a metropolitan center celebrated for the arts and outdoors. Oregonians place a high priority on thoughtful practices and sound policies that benefit the greater community. Oregon Law has long been a gathering place for those who understand the importance of this principle. We count many trailblazers and visionaries among our faculty, students, and graduates. In the 1960s, for example, we became the first public law school to offer environmental law courses. We are home to unique opportunities like the Probate Mediation Clinic, the Oregon Child Advocacy Project, and the Master’s Degree Program in Conflict and Dispute Resolution. Out of Oregon Law came the "Oregon Method," where doctrinal courses in business law are integrated with a transactional practice lab. The cutting-edge Technology Entrepreneurship Program (TEP) brings together law, business, and graduate students committed to hi-tech start-ups. With practitioners in Portland, our students created the Green Business Initiative (GBI), one of the region's first programs dedicated to resolving legal problems where the law, business, and environmental concerns intersect. In 2011, we launched the 1L Fellowship Program for outstanding incoming first-year students.
The Oregon Law imprint is clearly visible throughout the state and beyond. Among the 180,000 alumni of the UO are Oregon Law graduates Ellen Rosenblum '75, Oregon's current attorney general; the Hon. Ann Aiken '79, Chief Judge, United States District Court for the District of Oregon; the Hon. David Brewer '77, Chief Judge, Oregon Court of Appeals; the Hon. Malcolm Marsh '54, Senior Judge, US District Court for the District of Oregon; the Hon. Alfred Goodwin '51, Senior Judge, US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit; United States Representative Suzanne Bonamici '83; and United States Senator Ron Wyden '74.
